Paisley Pattern

I saw the Great Gatsby on Wednesday. It was really good but nothing particularly spectacular. The costumes (Carey Mulligan's dresses = amazing!) and the soundtrack (I will never get bored of this song) were the best parts in my opinion, but I'd still recommend going to see it.

I went to Westfield yesterday with my Mum and my brother for a bit of holiday shopping. I couldn't resist buying this wonderful dress from River Island (I really wish I had a huge pair of Jeffrey Campbells to pair it with!). It cost £25 which seems a bit pricey (especially since I have no job and am trying to save up money for my summer holiday) but I just couldn't help myself! It's very similar to the ones you can get in Urban Outfitters for about £50 and I can tell that I'm going to wear this dress a huge amount (I really adore the style and shape) so I don't feel too guilty about the purchase. I think I'm going to have to give myself a spending ban for a while or force myself to find a Saturday job. I worked at my local garden centre during Christmas (hence why I have the money to go on holiday) but I've sort of come to a dead end with my job search and I  came to the conclusion that I can manage on minimal, cheap clothes. This can't last though and there's lots of other things I need to save up for now - it's so scary that in under a year I'll legally and officially be an adult with adult responsibilities and adult things to worry about. God, things are so much easier when you're only 17!

Purple

First of all, look at my fancy reflection skills! I keep seeing this everywhere so I thought I'd try it out myself. Onto the actual outfit...I made this dress on Saturday afternoon. This is actually the first thing I've properly made from scratch (apart from my Textiles final) since Christmas. I'm the biggest procrastinator ever so rather than wasting time attempting but not actually doing work, I decided this dress would be a better use of my time. After I made it, I actually felt an increased motivation to work harder for my schoolwork. Perhaps I've discovered the key to preventing procrastination: do something you've been wanting to do for a while and then focus on your work afterwards - it works, trust me!.

So, I  made the dress using some fabric I got as a present for my birthday. The print is so lovely and I really like how it contrasts with the sleeves (which were made from some white curtain netting). I'm actually really pleased with the dress (unusual for me). It reminds me of the ones you can get from Yayer or Choies (but instead I saved about £40 of my money by making it myself).

I'm really excited to be going to two designer's shows at London Fashion Week this weekend (sass and bide and David Koma). It's my first ever proper fashion week so it's going to be interesting to see first hand how fashion week really works. Any tips from people who've already been?

Anyway, I'm going to have the difficult decision over what to wear. One possibility is this dress. I bought it in the summer from ebay. It was only £2, so of course I snatched it up straight away. It's served me very well so far and is very easy just to throw on when you don't really feel like creating a complicated outfit. I love the style of it with the collar (I can't get enough of this trend!) and it's always great to have something with a paisley print in your wardrobe. It's also going to be brilliant to wear in the summer. What do you think of my outfit?
